Costume Design- By Colette

After thinking about what the characters in our film should be wearing i decided that the best way to show their costumes is by sketching them. I sketched the outfits onto a template so that we have a visual idea of the costume instead of a mental idea. The character's hair and makeup will be decided by Shannen in another post. I have tried to base the costumes around stereotypical assumptions that people may have about the particular social group. This will help to bring across the comedy twist at the end when the 'hooded thugs' are in fact elderly women who are drinking tea and eating sponge cake.

Newsreader
The news reporter will be wearing a smart suit, shirt and tie. This will show that he is a powerful, well respected character which will make the audience believe the news report. The costume will represent the character as a stereotypical newsreader. This costume is based on a typical BBC News reader.

News correspondant
The news correspondant will also be wearing a suit, shirt and tie although he will look scruffier and older than the news reporter. This is because he has a lower paid job and also to show that he has been reporting around the action all day which has ruined his smart clothing

Hoodie 1,2 and 3
The rioters will all be wearing the same type of outfit- a hoody, tracksuit/jeans, trainers, gloves and a balaclava. This is to fit the ideology that many elderly people have that all youths dress in a threatening way and it also helps us to mask the grannie's identities until they are 'unmasked' at the end of the film. Also, it is similar to what the rioters wore during the London Riots which will enable the stock footage from the riots that we will use to blend into our own footage.

Granny 1, 2 and 3
The Grannie's outfits are very stereotypical about what the elderly wear as it will contrast heavily with the threatening costume that the rioters are wearing. Granny 1 will wear a floral dress, cardigan and tights as this is a general assumption of what older women wear.
